More safety ideas for Route 27
Dear Editor:
Kudos to Mark Warren in voicing his concerns about Route 27 safety to the Edgecomb Select Board and better yet, presenting viable solutions as well!
I take the McKay Road often to River Road and with cars speeding on your heels, you pray you are able to signal and “turn left onto McKay” after the blinding curve on Route 27.
Route 27 Speeding is not limited to Route 27 so please add River Road to the list!
Just a couple days ago two yellow lines mean nothing as I was passed by a car on this roller coaster road that links Rt 27 to Damariscotta.
Anyone with property on River Road knows you say a prayer pulling out with cars going near 50 mph or more can come over a small rise in the road in a couple of seconds!
More suggestions for improvement:
* Lower the speed limit on River Road (makes sense since 85% or more of this road is “No Passing” with double yellow lines.)
* Add pole lights at the Route 27 and River Road intersection and a blinking caution light.
* Have a sign at the Route 27 and River Road intersection “To Damariscotta.”
* Have an “H” sign for Hospital as well “To Damariscotta” and an Urgent Care (arrows for direction) for Boothbay Harbor.
* Tree trim work is needed on River Road (ask any delivery truck driver).
