The barn at Morris Farm is once again filling up with a huge selection of heirloom tomatoes, hardy Maine-grown perennials, and herbs for the educational farm’s annual plant sale this Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The sale features a wide variety of locally-grown perennials, hardened off and ready for planting: Day Lilies, Rudbeckia, Phlox, Bee Balm, Bleeding Heart, Columbine, Lupine, Iris, Poppies, Hosta, Rhubarb, to name just a few. 

There are 14 varieties of tasty heirloom tomatoes available this year, most of which are not available at local nurseries. Slicing tomatoes can be found in all colors: Black Prince, Cherokee Purple, Cosmonaut Volkov, Garden Peach, Pruden’s Purple, Paul Robeson, Glacier, Goldie Yellow, and Rose De Berne. The cherry tomato varieties include Black Cherry, Honeydrop Cherry, and Peacevine Cherry. And the paste tomatoes include Amish Paste and Orange Banana Paste. 

Descriptions of all the tomatoes will be available to help home gardeners choose the perfect combinations for salads, slicing, and snacking. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions about the plants and their care.

Coffee and baked goods will be sold.  All proceeds from the sale benefit the Morris Farm’s education programs. The Morris Farm Store will be open with some early vegetables, milk, eggs, and other locally produced items.
