Mothers, daughters have a ball at WCC

The Wiscasset Community Center held its first Mother Daughter Tea Party to celebrate Mother’s Day on Wednesday, May 8. “It is a party so girls can dress up like princesses,” said Director Lisa Thompson.
Thompson said she had held a similar event when she was working in South Portland.
In addition to a cardboard crown given to each princess, the girls and their mothers were treated to a buffet of appetizers and sweets.
Of the 60 children preregistered, several brought their grandmothers, she said. “The multi-generation events have been really popular,” said Thompson. In February, 300 people attended a father-daughter dance. Family trivia nights at the Center have been popular, she said.
Carol Ramsdell encouraged her friend Joan Teele of Bremen to attend with her daughter Ireland, 6, after seeing a notice on the Center’s Facebook page.
“It came up and we invited all our friends to come,” said Ramsdell who came with her daughter, Charlotte, 7. Charlotte brought a recording of her favorite princess, Elsa, from the movie “Frozen.”
“I love all the princesses,” said Ireland.
Alicia Roberts attended with Nyla-Sue Keenan, 10. The pair wore dresses with the same floral design. “We just happened to find two with the same material,” said Roberts.
Sheila Sawyer came with her daughter Jill Burke and her daughter Petra Burke, 6, of Wiscasset.
Magician Phil Smith of Portland entertained.
