Nature writing and journaling workshops at HVNC
In November and December, Andrea Lani will be offering two great opportunities at Hidden Valley Nature Center (HVNC) to show participants how keen observation, writing and journaling can bring the seemingly quiet world to life.
Join us for a nature writing workshop on Sunday, November 15, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Beginning and experienced writers are encouraged to participate. Students will explore outdoors and pay close attention to nature, try their hand with different styles of writing, share and discuss in a supportive environment, practice the art of wandering and wondering.
Then, on Sunday, December 6, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., join Lani again for a nature journaling workshop. Students in this class will examine different styles of nature journals, write from prompts, experiment with drawing techniques, and spend time in nature using their senses.
During both classes, students will spend time both outside and inside; please dress for the weather and bring a journal, blank book, or paper, basic writing and drawing tools (pen, pencil, and colored pencils) for students in the journaling class. You might also bring something to sit on outdoors, such as a camp chair or insulating mat. Don’t forget your lunch, snacks, and drinks!
Both workshops are free for members of HVNC, Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance, and Damariscotta Watershed Association. For non-members each workshop is $15. Registration is required. Visit ww.hvnc.org/registration/ for details and registration.
Andrea Lani has been an avid nature journaler for nearly 20 years. Her essays about the natural world have appeared, or are forthcoming, in Orion, About Place Journal, Kindred, Northern Woodlands Magazine, and Snowy Egret, among others, and her essay "Nature Journaling as Meditation" appeared in the winter 2010 issue of Rhythm of the Home.
