New officers, new grants for Damariscotta
One of the last Damariscotta Board of Selectmen meetings of 2014 will focus on things important to 2015.
The board will meet Wednesday, Dec. 17 to discuss, among other things, the budget calendar, potential grants and what to do with money left over from the floating pump-out station.
The board will meet with two new full-time police officers recently moved from part-time to full-time positions. Officers James Dotson and Erick Halpin currently serve as reserve officers for the Damariscotta Police Department, but will move into full-time spots.
Property-tax exempt entities will again be placed on the agenda. During its last meeting, the board discussed property-tax exempt entities, such as portions of the Miles Health Campus, that do not pay property taxes in Damariscotta.
The board will also receive a verbal update on an open house meeting for the waterfront improvement project, and an update on the flood resiliency study.
Town Manager Matt Lutkus will also brief the board regarding a possible Community Development Block Grant that could be made available to the town. Currently, Damariscotta has one CDBG project, which is nearing its terminus.
The board will also be tasked with approving the 2016 budget calendar, as the town enters the second half of its fiscal calendar. The budget season is slated to officially begin Jan. 7, 2015 with a joint meeting between the board of selectmen and the budget committee.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at the town hall, 22 School Street. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.
