New resource center for veterans
Veterans of the Mid-Coast will be opening a Veterans Resource Center at 62 Pegasus Street at the Brunswick Landing. The grand opening is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Along with many guests, Gov. Paul LePage, together with the first lady, will be present as the keynote speaker.
A fundraising event, the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament, will be held September 27 at the Brunswick Golf Course.
The Mid-Coast Veteran's Council (MCVC) is a nonprofit organization established by local veterans, whether active duty, National Guard or reserve soldiers, who have served under honorable conditions, and their families. Our goal is to facilitate the connection of veterans with local, state and national programs that can provide them with any assistance needed.
Our objective is to work in cooperation with all VSOs to provide a single place where Veterans can get information on state and national programs, or meet with an advisor to enroll in a program. Currently there is no state or national Veteran's facilities with offices in the Midcoast region. We will also provide a location where veteran groups can hold meetings, conduct fund raising events, provide counseling, mental health care, skills training, and employment services.
Due to the closure of the Brunswick Naval Air Station, the Midcoast region of Maine no longer has offices for many of the organizations that have programs designated for veterans. MCVC will work with all organizations, military and civilian, to enable the veteran’s information and access to all programs which may help them. Priority Real Estate Group’s donation of the space at Brunswick Landing will allow us to achieve the success we need for all veterans in the Midcoast area.
Golf tournament
Last years’ tournament was considered a great success. We were fortunate to have 80 golfers. It is estimated that there will be approximately 100 to 130 golfers entered in this years’ tournament and the exposure to your business/organization would be significant.
Our proceeds from this tournament will go to provide counseling opportunities to all veterans, including for our Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who are suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as assisting their families with any and all concerns.
We are in need of sponsors, so if you would like to become a sponsor, or know someone that is part of a company/organization that would like to sponsor a hole, please email rj_dumont@msn.com or bj_dumont@msn.com.
At this tournament we will have members of the Wounded Warriors program participating and we will are asking for donors to sponsor these veterans to play on selected teams.
We are looking for golfers as well, so if you or members of your business/organization would like to participate, please feel free to join us.
