One-pan turkey stuffing
Busy, busy, busy week.
I want to thank the downtown businesses; they look beautiful. We are fortunate to live on the best little peninsula. I want to make sure people from away look online to find out what stores and restaurants are open. Please do your best to shop locally. Julie Roberts has gotten together with lots of merchants in town to do a small shop local day on Nov. 30. Most places will have discounts, door prizes and raffles.
Also, please don’t forget — my most favorite thing to do this time of year is Early Bird. It’s this Saturday, Nov. 23. Lots of wonderful things are going on. A big shout-out to the non-profit organization Rebuilding Together. Representatives will be selling breakfast sandwiches in front of Logan’s. If you need to sit, we have many places to grab a bite — Waves, Mama D’s, and Eventide Specialties will have some amazing baked goods, and Brady’s will be selling breakfast sandwiches. Please except my apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone. Shop till ya drop, do it the local way.
Stuffing — I’m sharing my really easy, one-pan stuffing recipe for your Turkey Day. Ingredients: One bag of Pepperidge Farm stuffing bread or any brand. That’s the one I’m using this time; four fresh sausages (Hannaford brand); Bells poultry seasoning; four or five stalks of washed celery; one sweet onion; one stick of real butter; and two cups of water with one tablespoon of chicken paste and cranberries for garnish.
First, melt your butter on low heat, chop up your celery and onion and sauté them well. Add your sausage — squeeze it out of the case and chop it up, cook well. When that’s done, add your bag of stuffing mix, toss around, then add your water with your paste. Cook on medium heat until moist; you might have to add a half a cup of water as people like different consistencies. I like it wet. Cook it on 350 degrees uncovered in its own dish for about 35 to 40 minutes. It’s a big no no to stuff your bird these days because of bacteria.
One word: Basketball. The season is upon us and the YMCA league is looking good. Big shout-out to Joe, Ed and to all the coaches who volunteer their time for practices and give up their Saturday mornings. I can’t speak for the other coaches but there’s really no place I’d rather be. I’m thinking we all are on the same page.
