Overnight fire destroys Alna mobile home
Fire consumed a double-wide mobile home on Alna’s Cross Road early January 28, Alna Fire Chief Mike Trask said.
“When we arrived, you could basically see through the place. There was nothing but 2 by 4’s left,” Trask said after the last firefighters cleared the scene at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The home was for sale and unoccupied, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 1:19 a.m., a Lincoln County Communications dispatcher said.
Firefighters from Wiscasset, Newcastle, Whitefield and Jefferson joined Alna firefighters in fighting the fire, Trask said. A Cross Road hydrant, near Waterville, Wiscasset & Farmington Railway Museum, served as the water source, he said.
Trask did not know what may have caused the fire. “There’s no way to determine it. There’s nothing left,” he said.
A sand crew from Hanley Construction, Alna’s snowplow contractor, came to the scene to sand icy areas created during the firefighting effort, Trask said.
