Palermo sticks with RSU 12
Palermo will stay in Regional School Unit 12, following Tuesday’s vote at the polls rejecting a plan to withdraw. The district includes Alna and Westport Island; until July, it also included Wiscasset. Wiscasset voted in November 2013 to leave. On Tuesday, voters in Palermo and Windsor faced the same decision as Wiscasset did a year ago.
Tuesday’s vote in Palermo ran 214 in favor of withdrawing and 495 against the pullout, in unofficial results the town provided.
“Wow. That’s exciting,” the district’s superintendent Howard Tuttle said in a telephone interview late Tuesday evening. “I think it’s good news for students. We can provide a quality education if we stay together as a district, with all towns paying in.”
Results were still being awaited on Windsor’s withdrawal vote.
