Passengers happy with bus service’s return

Two passengers were waiting for the southbound bus of Concord Coach Lines Monday morning at the company’s new pickup and drop-off location at the Circle K Irving store on Route 1, Wiscasset.

The couple, a man and woman, were taking the bus to Boston’s Logan International Airport. They’d been visiting with Ginny Colburn, a summer resident of Southport who had dropped them off. They’d bought their tickets in advance because there’s no ticket service at the convenience store.

“We’re really happy the bus service has returned and this location is nice because there’s plenty of parking,” Colburn said, adding she’s taken the Concord Coach Lines bus many times although Monday morning she was only dropping off her friends.

Colburn told the Wiscasset Newspaper she’d used Concord Coach Lines’ Damariscotta bus stop after the bus line cancelled the one in Wiscasset.

“It’s nice to have this service if you’re headed to Boston and to the airport in particular,” she continued. “Let someone else do the driving, and worry about the traffic and parking.”

The southbound bus out of Rockland arrives at Wiscasset twice daily at approximately 9:50 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. depending on traffic. Monday’s bus was about 20 minutes late. The southbound service includes stops at Bath, Brunswick, Bowdoin College and Portland, according to the company’s website.

The northbound bus from Boston and Logan International Airport arrives at Wiscasset at approximately 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m.

No ticket sales or freight are handled at the Wiscasset stop.

The company suspended its Wiscasset service at the former Huber’s Market on Bath Road last January for lack of plowing. The company continued offering daily passenger bus service from Bath, Brunswick, Damariscotta and Waldoboro.
