On Tuesday, Jan. 19, Patten Free Library in Bath will reprise its popular workshop series,” iPad for Seniors.”Roberta Jordan, an instruction and outreach librarian at Patten, will offer five workshops designed to provide new and beginner iPad owners with hands-on instruction on a range of topics.  All five sessions are free, open to anyone aged 55 and over, and will be held on Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to noon in the Library’s second floor board room.

The Jan. 19 session, “Getting Started: Understanding Your Machine” will cover the basic topics relating to the use and enjoyment of the iPad. Participants will learn the basics about device controls, adjusting iPad settings, basic navigation, the control panel and notification screens, and how to use the keyboard efficiently.  The session will also include a conceptual introduction to “the cloud” and how it enables sharing of information and data across devices.

“These workshops are designed to help iPad users that range from the absolute novice to advanced beginner,” said Roberta Jordan, the Outreach and Instruction Librarian at Patten. “The holiday season inevitably results in a lot of new iPad owners, and these workshops will provide these new users with a jump start, particularly visual learners. I connect my own iPad to a projector so that participants can watch, learn, and follow.”

Registrants should bring their own iPad with the latest operating system (iOS 9.2) installed; they should also bring their Apple ID and password. Participants may attend one, several, or all the workshops depending on their needs and interests. The subsequent sessions include: Communications: Email, Messaging, Video Chat on Jan. 26; “Taking, Storing, and Sharing Your Photos and Video,” (Feb. 2); “What are all these apps?”(Feb. 9); “eBooks and Audio Books” (February 23). There will be no class on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
