‘Pawn Stars’ considers Red’s Eats for new show

Lobster rolls are the main attraction at Red's Eats in Wiscasset, but owner/manager Debbie Gagnon is the other reason people keep coming back.
Gagnon was overjoyed when she got a call from the co-creators of History Channel's “Pawn Stars,” regarding a possible documentary television series on “the world of lunch.”
They thought the iconic Maine business would be a good fit for the show and asked her to send a casting video.
But mid-August is a busy time for Gagnon. She and her three siblings are co-owners of Red's, and running the family business is a full-time job.
Not having time to come up with a new video, Gagnon sent them one that ran on the television show “Phantom Gourmet.” A segment from that series featured Red's in a video called “Great 8 Lobster Spots.” It shows a close-up of the huge lobster roll that has made Red's famous. It also features a clip of Gagnon standing in front of the small red building that attracts a long line of hungry people seven days a week.
Gagnon has now sent the casting video along with bios on 17 employees. She doesn't know when, or even if, the show (which is being called “Lunch Rush”) will air, but said that if it does she'll be ready to handle the extra business.
“We wouldn't change a thing, except to hire a couple more people,” she said. “We'll continue to make people feel special, providing umbrellas on rainy days and water on hot ones” — for people and their dogs.
So as long as the lobstermen continue supplying the lobster, which over the course of six months, totals over 10 tons, Red's will keep on serving their “world famous” rolls.
In the words of employee Jill Moody, “We don't have to travel the world, the world comes to us.”
