Pemaquid Chapter DAR collects gifts for veterans at December meeting
On Dec. 12, Regent Belknap called the meeting to order at the American Legion Hall in Boothbay at 11:15 a.m. Diane Randlett gave a Native American prayer to start the meeting followed by the pledge of allegiance. The President General’s message was read by Shirley Peverly. Regent Belknap announced that Monica Tan is now the newest member of the Pemaquid Chapter.

On Dec. 6: The 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery in the U.S., is ratified. (1865).
On Dec. 7: Japanese planes raid Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in a surprise attack, bringing the U.S. into World War II (1941).
On Dec. 10: The Treaty of Paris ends the French and Indian War. France gives up all her territories in the New World except for New Orleans and a few scattered islands (1763).
On Dec. 21: The Pilgrims land at or near Plymouth Rock (1620).
On Dec. 31: A new tradition begins as crowds gather in New York’s Times Square to celebrate the end of the old year. As midnight strikes, an illuminated globe descends a pole atop the Times Tower, ushering in the new year (1904).
The attendees enjoyed several Christmas trivia games and prizes were awarded for their efforts. The games were followed by a delicious lunch and a cookie swap. The memories of Christmas’s past were shared one by one. The meeting wrapped up with the benediction given by Diane Randlett and the collection of donations for the veterans in Togus. The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 pm.
