Perryman K. Maynard
Perryman Keith Maynard, 66, of Southlake, Texas, devoted husband and father, died peacefully on Dec. 5, 2022 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed.
Perry was born in New Rochelle, New York on April 3, 1956. Although he grew up in New York, he was a lifelong summer resident of Ocean Point, Boothbay where he spent every summer at his multi-generational family cottage, “Spruce Ledge.“ From the time he was old enough to work, he could be found in and around the waterfront in Boothbay Harbor, parking cars in the waterfront parking lot and running the boat to and from the Cabbage Island Clambakes.
At a young age, Perry became a licensed captain who then piloted several different excursion boats in the harbor, including the Linekin II, the Linekin III, the Argo and the Winslow tugboats.
After graduating from Bates college, Perry returned to New York and went to work for United Airlines at pilot crew scheduling before moving to New York Air, a newly founded airline where he continued the same. It was there that he met the love of his life, Kim Kibbe, a New York Air flight attendant who soon became Mrs. Perry Maynard. The purchase of New York Air by Continental Airlines led to the family moving to Houston, Texas, in the first of many career related moves.
Perry became vice president of marketing for Hilton Hotels in Beverly Hills where he was instrumental in the development of the Hilton Honors program, one of the first loyalty rewards programs in the industry. He then accepted a position as senior vice president of Marketing for Hilton Grand Vacations in Orlando, Florida. From there, Perry returned to the west coast to market several startup companies in the San Francisco area and finally settled in Southlake, Texas.
Perry and Kim were blessed with two wonderful children, Amanda and Perry Jr., of whom he was understandably proud. Amanda runs a successful online clothing business in Portland, Oregon and Perry Jr. is a prominent chiropractic doctor in Englewood, Colorado.
In addition to his family, two of Perry’s great loves were the Maine coast and music. Perry had a wonderful voice that he shared with people all through his life. He sang, at various times, in a barbershop quartet, in choral groups through high school and college and was a member of the Hubcaps, an accapella doo-wop group at Bates College. Many a tuneful evening was spent in his parents living room in East Boothbay, singing a variety of songs accompanied by Perry and his guitar, “Jenny.”
Perry is survived by Kim Maynard, his devoted wife of 39 years; his daughter, Amanda Maynard and her husband, Jake Zivin; his son, Perry Maynard Jr. and Stephanie Arnold; his sister, Betsy Lilley; his brother, Doug Maynard and his wife, Lynn; his sister, Martha Brisk and her husband, Charlie; a slew of nieces and nephews and more than a dozen grandnieces and grandnephews.
