Philip W. Simpson, 82, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died peacefully Sept. 2, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Wiscasset on Dec. 6, 1934, a son of Hallie A. and Martha (Grover) Simpson.

He graduated from Wiscasset Academy and also from North Yarmouth Academy. Phil was employed for Central Maine Power at the Mason Station, in Wiscasset, for many years.

On June 30, 1956, he married the love of his life, Faye Bragdon. Stemming from his fascination with aviation as a child, he pursued his passion to become a pilot. He began his career working at the aviation department for the state of Maine, in 1966. During his tenure, he became an executive co-pilot for governors Kenneth Curtis and Joseph Brennan. Later he became the assistant director of Aviation, where he worked with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1972. He was also the chief inspector of the Aeronautics Department. Phil retired, after 30 years of service, in 1996.

After, he became a consultant and airport manager to several airports, including Sanford, Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport and Oxford County airports. For his contribution to aviation over the years, he received the prestigious Gadabout Gaddis Cup from the Maine Aeronautics Association (MAA) in 2011. This recognition is awarded to members who support the advancement of aviation in Maine.

Phil was a member of Lincoln Lodge of Masons in Wiscasset and a member of the Kora Shriners. He, also, attended the Wiscasset Bible Baptist Church.

Phil was a very busy man, but always put his family first and loved his son and daughter unconditionally. He enjoyed his time at camp in Moosehead Lake and traveling. Phil and Faye were always by each other’s sides. Phil will be remembered as a strong, wise and very sensible man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Simpson of Wiscasset; his son, Timothy P. Simpson and his wife Lyndie-Lee of Raleigh, North Carolina; one daughter, Michelle and her companion, Shane Wyman of Wiscasset; two grandsons, Adam K. Jackimovicz of Boothbay, who was very close to his grandpa, and Gavin J. Card of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset.
