I want to thank you for printing the “Horn-Decker” stories in recent issues.

When I was a young teenager, growing up on the Birch Point Road in Wiscasset, I was visiting a friend who lived not far down the road. When a knock came on the door, my friend’s mother went to the door; we heard it shut rather quickly and her mother (who came from Boothbay) walked away toward the kitchen, muttering something about “those Horndeckers.”

I asked her what a “Horndecker” was —- she just muttered something I couldn’t hear and kept on walking to the kitchen.

Since then, I have asked a few people I know who live in Boothbay but they professed they “didn’t know, never heard of them.”

Now, 70 years later, I have finally had my question answered, thanks to your newspaper!
