Maine Coast Artist Gallery of Friendship will be hosting the artist reception for the new exhibit, The Poetry of Line, on Sept. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. This show integrates the love of line and poetry and will feature drawings of locally and nationally recognized artists, fine crafts that are line and word related, and poetry.

From 6 to 7 p.m., during the opening, there will be an open mic for poets to read their work. Artists who are showing their work, have been invited to also submit their poetry. Live music and refreshments will also be offered for this special evening.

Workshops and courses

Maine Coast Artist Gallery will also be hosting a Haiku reading/art workshop for families on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. with Liga Jahnke. Liga will be reading her Haiku poems as children/parents are offered art materials to illustrate what they are feeling from it. The workshop cost $10 per child or $25 for family and there are scholarship funds available if needed.

In honor of the new exhibit, The Poetry of Line, Kat Logan will be teaching a drawing course entitled, Drawing in Preparation for Painting, that will run for five weeks, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The course will be an academic approach to drawing tonally and mastering composition in the preparation for an oil painting class that will be offered in the following five weeks.
