Preservation panel tables West request
The Wiscasset Historic Preservation Commission tabled a request from Dion West Oct. 4.
West was told he would have to submit a complete certificate of appropriateness request and the town would have to notify abutters of his Evergreen Street property before the request to demolish the small building could be approved. West said the building had a tree fall on its roof, and water leaked through the hole, rotting floors and other structures. West hopes to demolish the building and expand the house on the adjoining lot, which he also owns, to make a duplex.
Because the commission could not get into the firehouse meeting room, where it was scheduled to meet, it met briefly in the main meeting room, which was scheduled later for a candidates’ night forum. Among other discussion was the postponement of Phil DiVece's guest speech “Then and Now,” Chair John Reinhardt’s request that Albert Kontrath attend a grant writing workshop because Reinhardt was going to be out of town, and the website development and mailing to residents in the historic district.
