Protect girls sports
Dear Editor:
I attended last Saturday’s “Protect Girls in Sports” rally at the statehouse. It was a great event, well attended with lots of patriotism and positive energy. It started with a prayer then all joined in a rousing national anthem. There were incredible and powerful speeches from young Maine women and the event ended with a sobering address from a young de-transitioned victim of DEI.
As a dad of a small but fearless soccer-playing daughter who broke her collarbone in a collision with a larger girl, I can relate with those concerned about safety. As a former State Champion (Class L 2 mile) I understand the work, effort, and sacrifice it takes to get to that level but can only imagine the sense of unfairness, disappointment, and loss when that championship is sacrificed to DEI. To date, thousands of girls and women have been displaced on the winner’s podium by biological males. Taken to the absurd it is easy to envision girls’ sports teams being dominated by biological males. What is to stop them? Shame on Maine for taking this away from our girls, it should never have been allowed. It is time to protect our young women and their place in sports.
