Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ special collectibles sale on Thursday, Sept. 19 will feature over 240 lots of rare coins and 192 vintage toy lots.

Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux noted: “This sale represents a unique opportunity to buy coins from three important collectors, including rare pieces and affordable items that will enhance any coin collection. Additionally, most of the toys are from the lifelong accumulation of an Atlanta collector.”

The coin portion of the sale will feature over 100 scarce American gold pieces, Colonial copper and silver, proof sets, a group of unique American currency, plus several lots of ancient coins.

Highlighted gold coins will include a 1909-O $5 Indian Head Half Eagle coin with a PCGS grade of AU55, a 1922 $1 commemorative Grant-Star coin with a PCGS grade of MS67, and a very rare 1877 Coronet Head Half Eagle $5 coin, with a PCGS grade of XF40-AU55.

There will be two U.S. Mint gold bullion proof sets with $5, $10, $25, and $50 gold proofs in original mint packaging with COA and box, one from 1988 and one from 1989; plus a large contingent of American silver dollar and half dollar coins, such as an 1884-S Morgan dollar in seldom seen choice condition, and an 1853 Liberty Seated half dollar with arrows and rays and also in choice condition.

Among the group of Colonial coins will be: an 1801 Draped Bust cent, one cent coins from 1819 and 1820, plus a 1793 large copper cent with wreath, vine and bars edge. The 15 lots of early paper money will feature fine examples of early small & large size notes and fractional currency, plus confederate currency.

Ancient coins will be offered, such as a lot of 14 Greek silver AR hemiobol coins of Bactrian King Demetrius II (175-170 BCE) with standing Athena on the obverse, and an ancient Roman Alexander III AR silver tetradrachm coin, circa 325-322 BC.

The toy collection will include a large selection of tin litho vehicles, vintage robots, early tin and cast iron pieces, Star Wars collectibles, die cast cars, porcelain and bisque head dolls, and folk art items.

The group of 39 vintage robot lots will feature: 2 remote controlled battery operated ‘Cobots’ (Star Wars R2D2 robots issued by Coca Cola in 1979) in their original boxes; a group of three vintage toy robots, including a 1955 Marx painted plastic ‘Electric Robot’ and two 1962 Yonezawa tin litho Cragstan Astronauts; plus a Japanese Godaiken ‘Tetsujin 28’ robot by Popy in its original box with accessories.

Among the other 14 lots of Star Wars items will be a lot of 93 Kenner action figures from all three original movies presented in Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back vinyl cases; a 1978 Kenner radio controlled R2-D2, #38430, in original packaging; and a 1981 Empire Strikes Back AT-AT by Kenner in its original box.

Highlighted among the vintage tin toys will be a 13” long painted tin ocean liner, ‘George Washington,’ by German toy maker Marklin; a lot containing a 1912 ‘The Great Billiard Champion’ by KiCo and an 1899 ‘The Performing Sea Lion’ by Lehman; a circa 1910 US Navy Dreadnought toy painted tin boat by the Dayton Toy Co.; and a lot of 16 tin litho motorcycles with riders dating from the 1950s to 1970s.

The doll group will include a circa 1900 German bisque head doll with brown sleep eyes and two 19th Century porcelain ‘Jenny Lind’ dolls.
