Report pending for high school
Wiscasset High School Principal Deb Taylor expects to learn any time now if the school will keep its accreditation with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Taylor said she was awaiting a draft of the association's final report; the school can then offer input before the report is issued, she said August 15.
Taylor declined to predict if the school will get reaccredited, but she said: “We're very hopeful.”
The high school's current, 10-year accreditation runs out this year. In May, a panel from the association came to town to conduct a four-day evaluation.
“The visit went very well,” Taylor said.
Accreditation helps Wiscasset High's graduates get into competitive colleges; a review by the association also gives a school an objective look at its practices, Taylor has said.
No state or other funding hinges on accreditation, school officials have said.
