Rev. Oscar Wallace to lead study group on Civility: American Politics and Christian Responses
The Rev. Oscar Wallace will begin a three-week study of Civility, or lack of it, in American Politics, and Christian Responses. The first study group will be held at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 11:30 a.m. Relevant scriptures will be provided for each topic.
In the first session, Rev. Wallace discusses how the ideal of civility is deeply rooted in American politics and asks a very timely question, “What has happened to civility in public discourse?”
The second of the three-part discussion, "Civility has deep moral roots in Christianity”, will take place on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11:30 a.m.
The final study group will take place on Sunday, September 23, at 11:30 a.m., and Wednesday, September 26, at 7 p.m. and will seek answers to “What kinds of commitments, behaviors and practices does civility actually require”?
Before retirement, Rev. Wallace was minister at the First Parish Church in Berlin, New Hampshire. He and his wife live in Bath.
The three-part series is open to the public and all are welcome. The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, UCC, is located at 28 High Street. For further information contact the church at 882-7544, fccw@myfairpoint.net,
