Devin Grover of Wiscasset Water District has been busy flushing fire hydrants. The maintenance work is done annually in spring and helps improve water quality by removing mineral and sediment buildup from water mains. It also allows water operators to identify broken or malfunctioning fire hydrants.

The flushing in Wiscasset and Woolwich is scheduled to continue until May 24 and sometimes causes a temporary drop in water pressure and minor water discoloration in the neighborhood were the flushing is occurring.
