River Arts’ call to artists for ‘Celebrate Maine’
River Arts is calling all artists to submit work for jurying into our next show entitled “Celebrate Maine.” We encourage work in any medium including sculpture, ceramics, fiber and assemblage. Work can be submitted anytime during gallery hours. Deadline is Saturday, Aug. 12 at 4 p.m. Exhibition opening reception is Friday, Aug. 18, from 5-7 p.m. The show runs through Sept. 14.
Artists may submit up to three works for an entry fee of $15/members and $20/nonmembers. Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision. Submissions may not have been shown at River Arts previously. Entry forms are available online at http://riverartsme.org and at the gallery, at 241 U.S. Route 1 in Damariscotta, when submitting. All work entered must be for sale.
The juror for this show is Katharina Keoughan who came to Maine 25 years ago from Miami, where she had founded and operated Drexel and Ives, a leading graphic design studio. Moving to Maine gave her the opportunity to pursue her interest in fine art painting. As her painting career grew, so did her interest in how painting is taught to adults. A new passion blossomed—teaching. A leader in the midcoast arts community, she has nurtured and supported numerous students over the years. Katharina teaches weekly classes, workshops, and private lessons in her Damariscotta building, “The Studio.” She views the world through the eyes of an artist, creativity touching every aspect of her life.
Artists are encouraged to frame all submitted works. Simple, well-constructed frames will give the gallery a more professional appearance. Your individual work will be greatly enhanced with proper framing. Table top frames do not hang well and we recommend that artists use standard wall frames complete with picture wire.
