River Room presents Sandra Kimball
River Arts in Damariscotta features the landscape paintings of Sandra Kimball from May 19 through June 8 in the River Room. Kimball of Harrison, Maine launches her solo show "Freedom of the Soul" with an Artist’s Reception on Saturday, May 21 from 1 to 4 p.m.
As a child living in Maine, Kimball loved to draw and paint. Her career as a commercial photographer brought her to Boston where she developed her visual skills. She spent decades honing her ability to create strong compositions with an understanding of settings and lighting. Eventually, she became engrossed in painting again and returned to Maine where she exhibits her work in Gallery 302 in Bridgton as well as River Arts.
Inspired by her innate strength and optimism, Sandra created this series of acrylic on canvas paintings as the world collectively grappled with the darkness of the pandemic. This new collection reflects a spectrum of emotions ranging from deep, stormy turbulence to calm peaceful softness. This River Room show embodies a balance of dark and light that resolves in a sense of hopefulness.
River Arts is located at 36 Elm St. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit riverartsme.org or call the gallery at 563-6868.
