Robert W. Ramsdell
Robert W. Ramsdell, 92, of Sarasota, Florida and West Boothbay Harbor, Maine died peacefully May 8, 2016 in his home at Bay Village.
Bob was predeceased in September 2015 by his wife of 64 years, Marjory (Dillon) Ramsdell.
He was born on December 17, 1924, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts to Robert Wylie Ramsdell and Catherine Ramsdell.
Bob was a veteran of World War II where he was part of the 397th Infantry, 3rd Army and served as pallbearer at the funeral of General George Patton.
Bob was a graduate of the class of 1949 from the University of Maine with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Hercules Inc. in the Paper Technology Division and lived in many locations including Wisconsin and Delaware. Bob retired in 1980 and he and Marjory lived in West Boothbay Harbor and Sarasota. Bob was very active in the Down East Yacht Club and enjoyed many years of boating. He was active in the Catholic Charities of Maine, The Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, Maine. He was the treasurer of the Catholic Charities of Venice from 2005 to 2015. He was a donor to many funds, including St. Martha’s Early Learning Center and Our Mothers House in Venice, Florida. He was a member of the Good Samaritan Guild.
Bob was predeceased by his only sibling, Catherine M. Ramsdell in 2008.
He is survived by Janet and Curt Mandeville of South Hadley, Massachusetts, Katherine and Peter Cragan of Orleans, Massachusetts, Mary Gene and Greg Schmidt of South Hadley, Massachusetts, Meg and Ed Beard of Medfield, Massachusetts, Robert and Laura Nelson of Mequon, Wisconsin, John and Therese Nelson Jr. of Saint Charles, Illinois, Laura and Scott Anderson of Middleton, Wisconsin, Jennifer and Galen Hathcock of Flossmoore, Illinois, Cathy and Terry Wilkinson of Mequon, Wisconsin, Donna and Leo Owens of Chesapeake, Virgina, Marjory Owen of New York, Mary, Charlotte and Randy Rosen of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Lou and Mel Tacito of Merrimack, New Hampshire.
A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 10 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, Florida. Bob and his wife, Marjory’s cremation ashes will be interred in the Garden of Mary at St. Thomas More Church following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Dioceses of Venice, Inc in his memory. Funeral arrangements are being arranged by Jennings Funeral Home and Crematory, Sarasota, Florida.
