Ryan Clark wins Edgecomb Eddy Spelling Bee
Fifth grader Ryan Clark won the Edgecomb Eddy School Spelling Bee Feb. 12 by defeating 11 opponents. Clark won the bee by spelling “amazon” correctly in the eighth round. Second grader Rebecca Fassett nearly won the bee in Round 6. She correctly spelled “notebook,” then Clark misspelled “concocted.” The rules require the champion to spell two consecutive words correctly. Fasset misspelled “scorned” and the bee continued.
In Round 8, Fassett misspelled “slipper.” Clark won by spelling “register” and “amazon” to claim the title. The Edgecomb Eddy School Spelling Bee included grades 1-6 co-champions. Other participants included Ross Gaffney, second grade; Catherine Clifford, fourth grade; Aidric Canada, third grade; Elisabeth Wallace, third grade; Charlotte Abello, first grade; Isabella Morton, first grade; Finnegan Gaffney, fourth grade; Wesley Edecomb, sixth grade; Arden Carleton, sixth and Kayden Ames, fifth grade.
