Saltwater Artists Gallery donates to Bristol School art program
Last week, Dave Higgins, current President of Saltwater Artists Gallery, had the pleasure of presenting a $1,000 donation to the art program at Bristol School from the local nonprofit co-op gallery. Higgins presented the donation to art teacher Andrea Cough while visiting her seventh grade art class to view the students at work.
The 28 gallery artists each donated work for the 2013 summer long Silent Auction, which was sponsored by the non profit New Harbor gallery, for the dual purpose of supporting and encouraging the development of young artists and the gallery building/maintenance fund.
An additional small donation will be made to the Bristol Children’s Christmas Fund; and the major gallery roof replacement project will be completed in the spring.
The gallery Board thanks the membership for their generous donations of art work and all those gallery supporters and visitors who placed bids to make the 2013 auction a great success. Special thanks go to the event organizers, Candace Vlcek, Holly Smith, Linda Paine and Lynn Thompson.
Cough and the students expressed their thanks to the artists at the gallery and to all who contributed to the fundraising on their behalf.
The accompanying photo shows Harley Benner and classmates at work. Cough said the class started off the year with drawing projects, learning how to navigate the creative process by planning personally selected ideas, and developing finished pieces; and by reflecting on gallery artworks and learning from other artists.
