School budget talks pick up
The Wiscasset School Committee will get back to talking spending Jan. 28. A budget discussion is on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting, set for 6 p.m. in the Wiscasset Middle High School library.
All administrators and program directors have now met with Transportation and Maintenance Director John Merry about minor projects, Superintendent of Schools Heather Wilmot states in an email response Tuesday to questions about the progress on the next budget.
School Committee Chairman Steve Smith, who has been predicting a budget hike, said Tuesday that he had been hearing no new feedback from the community. He encourages residents to call him at 207-882-6450 or email him at ssmith@wiscassetschools.org.
Also Thursday, the school committee is set to take up the resignations of pre-K educational technician Drew Porter, transportation administrative assistant Susan James and van driver Jesse Morang; and the new hires of French teacher Irene Marchenay and van driver Bruce Scally. Scally served as Wiscasset Middle School’s principal last school year.
Closed-door sessions are planned on a personnel issue and union negotiations.
Before Thursday’s meeting, the committee will hear a presentation on an energy savings project. That workshop, also in the library, starts at 5:15 p.m.
