Seagrass ashore in Wiscasset

The strong storm of wind and rain the night of April 7 brought Wiscasset a high surf that left seagrass and some seaweed on the parking lot near the recreational pier and Wiscasset Yacht Club, Wiscasset Harbor Master Preston Dunning said April 8. The night of the storm, Dunning bailed some water from the harbor master’s boat, which was tied to a float at the dock. A rope received some wear in the storm but the float’s fenders and the boat’s gunwales did their jobs and nothing needs repair or replacement, he said. Mooring instead of tying would remove some potential for damage in storms, but the boat has no skiff and, besides, a tied boat is better for responding quickly to an emergency, Dunning added.
