Select board, other seats up for election in Wiscasset
One of Wiscasset’s town boards stands to pick up at least one new member in spring elections, while another could see one or both incumbents defending their seats. Selectmen’s Chairman Pam Dunning confirmed Friday, March 6, that she will not seek reelection.
Dunning is in the final months of her third term on the board. Her seat and Selectman Tim Merry’s are each up for election for a two-year term. Attempts to reach Merry to ask about his plans were not immediately successful.
School Committee Vice Chairman Glen Craig said Friday that he was leaning toward running for a second term. Fellow committee member Eugene Stover said that he had initially planned to not seek reelection, but that he has since heard from several residents encouraging him to run. He is considering it and will decide soon, he said Tuesday.
Stover has served a single term on the school committee that began meeting in January 2014.
Nomination papers for the selectmen’s and school committee seats and others up for election were scheduled to be available at the municipal building starting March 16.
The school committee seats that Craig and and Stover currently hold are up for election for three-year terms, Town Clerk Christine Wolfe said. Dunning’s and Merry’s selectmen’s seats are up for election for two-year terms.
The budget committee has three, three-year terms up for election, along with three two-year ones and one term for one year, Wolfe said. A three-year water district seat will also be on the ballot.
Nomination papers will have a filing deadline of April 27. Elections are normally held the second Tuesday in June, Wolfe said. For more information, contact Wolfe at 207 882-8200, ext. 104.
