Sen. Johnson receives perfect score on environmental record
Democratic Senator Chris Johnson of Somerville received a 100% rating from the Maine Conservation Voters for his support of environmental issues during the second session of the 126th Legislature.
Johnson is among the 13 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score from the Maine Conservation Voters.
The MCV is dedicated to supporting policies and laws to protect our natural resources and the Maine brand--our air, land, water, and wildlife. For over 25 years, MCV has released an annual legislative scorecard to evaluate lawmakers’ commitment to protecting the environment.
Johnson spoke at the press conference today announcing the voting results. “I'm proud to have stood up for Maine people on each of these issues, Johnson said. “The 126th Legislature has made important progress such as opening up the St. Croix river to alewife passage, and studying Ocean Acidification. There is still more work to be done, and this scorecard helps everyone keep their eye on how well we as legislators are working and how much work we have ahead of us.”
During the 2014 legislative session, Johnson sponsored bills to help Maine farms reach larger markets through the creation of food hubs to provide fresh food to schools and other institutions, and to create the first commission on the East Coast to study the effects of ocean acidification. He is now the Senate Chair of that commission.
He also supported a bill to increase access to solar energy and voted for a bond package that includes funding for investment in protecting natural infrastructure and restoration of drinking water aquifers.
