Sewer questons swirl in Edgecomb
Would Wiscasset have any interest in making a new sewer district that would include Davis Island?
Edgecomb Selectman Stuart Smith said he plans to ask Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith that question.
Wiscasset selectmen have discussed possibly extending sewer service to the Montsweag Roadhouse in Woolwich. That has Smith wondering what else Wiscasset might be open to.
But before Edgecomb makes any moves on sewer issues, it will confirm whether or not it owns a pipe that takes sewage across the Sheepscot River to Wiscasset, Smith said.
He has always understood it to be Edgecomb that owns the pipe. But at a public hearing July 29, the question was raised, he said.
Town attorney William Dale will look into the matter and round up documentation for the selectmen, Smith said.
Plans call for Dale to update the board with a letter in late August and get the board the documentation in September, Smith said.
Monday's hearing was the latest one involving a possible engineering study. There's no point in seeking that study until ownership of the pipe has been confirmed, Smith said.
Laurie Smith, the Wiscasset town manager, said July 30: “It’s my understanding that Edgecomb owns it.”
Possible Cunningham Road property buy
Selectmen will be talking with a landowner on Cunningham Road about a possible buy to improve traffic safety there, Smith said.
The point of the purchase would be to move the Cunningham Road entrance further from Route 27, to improve visibility near Cunningham and Mill roads, Smith said.
The budget for the town's paving project includes funds for the purchase, Smith said.
