Sheriff’s report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high visibility impaired driving two-week crackdown period began August 16 and will run through September 2. During this period, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting at least one sobriety check point in the county. Sheriff Brackett would like to remind citizens to designate a sober driver and help to keep the roads safe for Maine citizens and visitors.
On August 17, Reserve Deputy Jennifer Sherman and Deputy Kevin Dennison responded to a report of a burglary/theft to a residence in the Dresden area. This is currently under investigation.
Arrests
On August 1, Jacob Graffam-Conners, 29, of Searsport was arrested for trafficking in prison contraband, at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Det. Scott Hayden.
On August 15, Gary W. Joslyn, 38, of Wiscasset was arrested on a Cumberland County District Court warrant for failure to pay fine, at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wiscasset, by Transport Sgt. Aaron Mortensen.
On August 17, Matthew Thomas, 26, of Lisbon was arrested for operating under the influence, on Route 1, Edgecomb, by Deputy Justin Drake.
Accidents
On August 15, an accident occurred on East Old County Road in Newcastle involving Israel J. Daiute, 18, of Newcastle. Daiute was operating his 1994 Mazda southbound and reached for his coffee. This caused his vehicle to drive off the roadway and strike a tree. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.
On August 15, an accident occurred on Beath Road in Boothbay involving Stephanie E. Bryer, 17, of Boothbay and a parked 2002 Ford Explorer owned by David Bryer of Dresden. Bryer was operating her 1991 Toyota Camry southbound when she stated she was distracted by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway on the right hand side and struck Bryer’s vehicle, which was parked on the dirt shoulder and lawn of a residence on Beath Road. Deputy Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.
On August 16, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving Ronna I. Lungosh, 58, of Round Pond. Lungosh was operating her 2005 Subaru Outback southbound when she stated that an unknown black Saab, which was traveling northbound, came into the southbound lane and caused her to swerve to the right into the southbound breakdown lane, then into the southbound grass area where she struck a no parking post. The other vehicle continued northbound. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On August 16, an accident occurred on Molly’s Point Road on Southport Island involving Carole J. McCarthy, 75, of Southport. McCarthy was backing her 2003 Acura down the road and misjudged the edge of the road and backed down an embankment, coming to rest against a tree. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On August 18, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Edgecomb involving Patricia A. Maloney, 68, of Topsham and Merve Zabci, 28, of Chicago, Ill. Maloney, who was operating her 2009 Honda Fit, was following Zabci, who was operating her 2010 Jeep, on Route 27 in Edgecomb as they came to a stop at the intersection of U.S. Route 1. Zabci was stopped at the stop sign and Maloney struck Zabci’s vehicle in the rear bumper area. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
