Signature quilt raffle to benefit the Chapman-Hall House
Local quilters, friends, and committee members of the Chapman-Hall House have contributed their skills to produce an adaptation of a signature quilt from its collection, the Esther Jameson Newbert quilt, created in 1856. The contemporary version of the quilt will be raffled off after the close of the season for the historic site on Oct. 9. Tickets are now available for purchase.
Among those whose signature can be found on the quilt is Don Carrigan of Channel Six News and Daisy Green, a well-known local artist. There are five blank squares for the lucky winner to personalize with names and/or verse.
The quilt square design is Cat’s Cradle. Each block is pieced with a combination of green fabrics plus white. The squares are bordered with a soft yellow print. At 78” x 86” the Chapman-Hall House quilt varies from Esther’s by one inch.
Raffle tickets will be sold on Saturdays and Sundays between noon and 4 p.m. at the Chapman-Hall House, located at 270 Main Street, Damariscotta. Tickets are also available by contacting Natalie House at 563-8441. The Chapman-Hall House Stewardship Committee can be contacted through the Lincoln County Historical Association website: info@lincolncountyhistory.org.
The Chapman-Hall House is maintained by the Lincoln County Historical Association, a non-profit organization that provides stewardship for the 1754 Chapman-Hall House, the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden, and the 1811 Old Jail and Museum in Wiscasset.
