Snow Ball huge success
On Saturday night, when the temperature outside was well below freezing and still falling, the temperature inside the Water’s Edge banquet facility was getting hot. That is because the first-ever Snow Ball was getting off to a rocking good start. It was an event sponsored and organized by the Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce and was designed to celebrate the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest.
Marketfest is an annual event to showcase the downtown area and the fine shopping our town has to offer.
Guests, dressed in casual holiday attire, began arriving at 7 p.m. and were greeted to the well-decorated water front room by seasonal music supplied by the Salty Dogs, one of the area’s favorite bands. It did not take long for the festivities to get bumped up to a higher level. Dancers took to the floor as the Salty Dogs broke into their signature rock and roll style that made everyone smile. Lucia Droby, chair of the Marketfest activities, and her husband, Rick, led attendees onto the dance floor and from that point on the evening was elbow to elbow, shoulder to shoulder.
Chip Davidson, Chamber vice president, took a moment to welcome the crowd and thank them for coming. Slightly later, event organizer Michelle Peele took the microphone to announce the winners of the evening’s contests. Winners of the best dancer, male and female were Linda Adams and Ron Sanchez. Winners of the most festive, male and female were Stacey Sousa and Ernie Gallerani. Revelers continued to dance and socialize and the fun being had by all was obvious.
“This was an event designed to bring the entire community together. The Chamber represents the greater Wiscasset area and we wanted this party to reflect that. People from across the community are here to celebrate and just have a good time. It’s fun to see folks in this setting when you might not ever see this side of them,” Peele said as the evening came to a close. “A fabulous turnout for the first annual event and a keen look to the future.”
