‘South and Maine’ new show at COCO VIVO
COCO VIVO Art for Living, Roger Milinowksi of Head of The Harbor Gallery and Corrine McIntrye of Ocean Point Studio, are excited to host “South and Maine,” a show featuring the artwork of some of the most well known plein air artists of Maine and the southeast.
The Plein Air movement, which has accelerated over the last decade, brings artists from all over the country together to one location where they paint together. The camaraderie and formation of lifelong friendships among creative people are fostered through this national plein air movement.
Professional plein air painters are bound by a common passion to promote the traditional methods of painting en plein air, to hone their painting skills through the demanding rigors of painting outdoors, to enjoy the camaraderie and shared knowledge of fellow plein air painters, and to raise awareness and appreciation of this traditional method of painting among art collectors and connoisseurs.
During the week of September 7 to September 14, such an event will happen here in Boothbay Harbor. The Plein Air Painters of the Southeast, and Plein Air Painters of Maine, together with COCO VIVO and Head of The Harbor Gallery, present South & Maine, a week of plein air painting at its best.
The week starts with daily group paintings, Wet Walls, and artists’ Meet and Greets. This exciting week-long event ends with a gala South & Maine Show and Sale. The show will feature plein air artwork completed during the week’s events; visitors will experience the artists’ interpretations of the place we are lucky enough to call home.
The gala reception will be held at The Gallery at the Gatherings, 102 Ocean Point Road (Route 96) in Boothbay Harbor on Friday, Sept. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. This beautiful show will feature works painted during the week of September 7-13 by both plein air painters groups. The show will offer a generous collection of artwork painted on location in such places as Barrett Park, Grimes Cove, Murray Hill, and Knickercane Island. The reception is free and open to the public and will be catered by Laura Francis.
Daily wet walls and receptions will be daily from 5 to 8 p.m. at COCO VIVO, 129 Commercial Street and Head of The Harbor at 31 Union Street, both in Boothbay Harbor.
