South Bristol fire chief wins raffle
South Bristol Fire Chief Mark Carrothers said, "My wife is going to be happy with me tonight," shortly after his name was drawn as the winner of the $1,000 home heating oil raffle recently conducted by the Lincoln County Fire Chiefs Association.
The raffle drawing was held at the Association's meeting at the Boothbay Fire Station on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Leading the raffle sales were Lynn Orne Martin, association treasurer, and Mike Martin, chairman of the board of directors of the association. The raffle was started this past spring and Mike Martin announced Thursday that the fundraiser netted $4,841.08, after expenses.
Later in the meeting, the association voted to earmark $4,500 of the raffle fund money for the training facility project fund. This fund, although fluid, is an attempt to reserve funds to be used in the search to acquire a new, more central, location within Lincoln County to build a new facility for the training of the county’s fire services.
Lynn Martin thanked the departments for their efforts in selling the raffle tickets and Colby & Gale for their continued support of the association.
Carrothers' gift certificates can be redeemed for K1 or #2 home heating oil or at any Colby & Gale locations, gas station or Philips Power Products.
"My wife will get half of this. I do a lot of driving, so it will come in handy filling my tank," said Carrothers.
