Spring Songbirds course offered
Every spring the woods and meadows resound with a chorus of birdsong. Central Lincoln County Adult Education in partnership with Hidden Valley Nature Center is proud to offer Spring Songbirds, a two week course beginning Thursday, April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Great Salt Bay School. This class can give participants a deepened experience of the wonders of spring with beautiful bird photos and recordings of singing warblers, vireos, thrushes, finches, grosbeaks and other jewels of May.
Many of these birds have journeyed hundreds of miles from Central and South America to find and claim their breeding territory in our neighborhoods. This class will explore the mysteries and challenges of migration, and the diverse nesting needs of both migrants and overwintering birds which are returning to breed in Maine. Methods of songbird identification, including visual cues, behaviors, habitat and song will also be a focal point of the class.
Instructor Jody Telfair-Richards, Ph.D. is a Maine Master Naturalist and a Certified Wildlife Habitat Steward. The course fee is $29 if you register by April 21 and $34 for all other registrations.
