St. Philip’s Episcopal Church has special program Dec. 31
St Philip's choir will sing early and contemporary carols and play handbells in a celebration of nine lessons and carols on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 9:30 in the Parish Hall at 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset.
The service is framed by the original 1919 format as written and revised by the young Eric Milner-White, newly appointed Dean of King's College Chapel, Cambridge. Milner-White developed the service for Christmas Eve after serving as chaplain during World War I, where he witnessed the ravages of war on the human spirit. The readings and carols outline the story of Christianity, and the 104-year-old service traditionally begins with the carol "Once in Royal David's City" and ends with "O Come All Ye Faithful."
The service is open to all, and all are encouraged to attend. All donations received will go to support the Genesis Fund which benefits Commonspace and Tedford Shelter in Brunswick.
