St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf to be Hannaford program beneficiary
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church’s Help Yourself Shelf (HYS), a nonprofit committed to helping to ease food insecurity, has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Cause Bag program September for the Hannaford store in Boothbay Harbor.
The Hannaford Cause Bag program launched in October 2015 and is designed to support local hunger relief organizations through the sale of the reusable Fight Hunger bag. For each of the bags with the message “This bag has helped feed someone in need” purchased at the Boothbay Harbor store during September, HYS will receive 25 cent donation.
“It is a real honor to have been chosen for this program,” said HYS Co -Director Lois Atwood. “We will be able to purchase more and diverse offerings for the Shelf’s clients.”
HYS has a goal of raising $200 during September, equivalent to 50 bags bought in support of the nonprofit. HYS plans to use the funds raised to purchase personal care products, which are not covered by SNAP benefits. Founded in the ‘70s, HYS has been open to anyone in need.
