St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf to shift to July 2
Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry (HYS) at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, is rescheduling the customary Thursday pantry day to Tuesday during the first week of July. On July 2, participants should arrive prior to the 5 p.m. start time to sign in. The first week of July is re-registration time at all pantries that participate in the government’s supplemental food system TEFAP.
With the phasing out of plastic bag use, the HYS has a very limited supply of bags for attendees, so people are encouraged to bring their own shopping bags or boxes.
The HYS wishes to extend thanks once more to the many people and groups who support its mission with their monetary and supply donations. Gratitude is also extended to Hannaford and Shaw’s stores for their participation in Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Fresh Rescue program which sources our pantry with much of its produce, bakery, and protein offerings throughout the year. Through Good Shepherd’s Mainers Feeding Mainers program, HYS also receives wonderful fresh produce from Twin Village Foodbank Farm. Without all of those supports, the HYS’s ability to aid the food insecure people and families taking part would be meager.
The Shelf is a totally volunteer effort, and there are many opportunities for those looking to help, on pantry days and other days of the week, whether it would be once only, once a month, once a week, or a few times a week, we have space for you to be involved.
For more information about volunteering or about the July 2 pantry, please contact St. Philip’s at 882-7184, leaving a name and contact number. A HYS representative will be back in touch.
