State considers Edgecomb traffic changes
It's only an idea for now, not a plan. But the state might decide to send Edgecomb's southbound Route 1 motorists over Cross Road and put a traffic light at the intersection of Cross and Cochran roads and Route 1, Edgecomb Selectman Stuart Smith said.
“This is one of the ideas they're talking,” Smith said about the Maine Department of Transportation. “I thought that was the most dramatic thing they were talking about.”
“It's interesting,” he said at the July 1 selectmen's meeting.
An MDOT official advised him that surveying will start soon around Routes 1 and 27, Smith said. The data will help plan projects, but Smith emphasized the state had no money to fund them, including the idea he described.
The earliest any possible local traffic reconfigurations would be funded is 2014, Smith said later.
