State police investigate death of Wiscasset 4-year-old
The death of a 4-year-old Wiscasset girl is under investigation by Wiscasset police and the Maine State Police’s Major Crimes Unit, according to Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland, though he cautioned that the death had not been identified as suspicious.
Kendall Chick of Crickets Lane was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick around 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8 by ambulance after a 9-1-1 call was made from her home. She had been found unresponsive. According to McCausland, CPR had been started at the home; she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. An autopsy was conducted over the weekend. Results were not immediately available, McCausland said.
Kendall turned 4 on Nov. 26. She lived with her grandfather, Stephen Hood, and his fiancee, Shawna Gatto. Detectives questioned the two and continue to investigate the child’s death, he said.
Mark Belserene of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the case is pending further studies.
