Studio 53: David Estey’s ‘Reimagined’ runs through July 30
“David Estey Reimagined” is a solo exhibit by the Belfast, Maine artist of 23 paintings, two thirds of which have been reworked from earlier states. They are improvisational abstract images often with narrative references, done in a variety of sizes using acrylic paint on canvas, wood panels or synthetic paper mounted on panels. This is his fourth solo show at Studio 53 and it fills two rooms.
“While I may have been perfectly pleased with many of these pieces when I first painted them, I can’t resist discovering new and exciting possibilities of what they might reveal,” the artist admits. Of the altered work, Gallery owner Terry Seaman says, “The addition of David’s superb drawing skills to the older pieces revitalizes them and adds a welcome element of spontaneity to the alterations.”
Estey is an award-winning native, with a BFA degree from Rhode Island School of Design as a participant in the Rome Honors Program, a MSA degree from George Washington University, and years of study at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He has produced nearly 11,000 pieces of art, some of which are in private and public collections in 20 states and seven countries.
He has exhibited widely in the Mid-Atlantic States, North Carolina and Maine. For more information about David and his work, visit www.davidestey.com.
