Study proposed changes first
Dear Editor:
Staggering the terms of the Alna Selectboard may be a common-sense change, or not. Leveling out the stipends of all three selectmen may be just a modest change, or not.
What I don't understand is why we are in such a hurry to make this change in a hastily scheduled special town meeting referendum election to be held 11 days before Christmas without a full understanding of all of the consequences, both intended and (more importantly) unintended.
An in-depth study of not only the number of other towns that do it in the way that has been proposed, but what struggles they went through when the idea was adopted, among many other possible questions, is needed. No drama; just more information.
The opportunity to study the idea thoroughly is why I will be voting no on Article 4 and yes on Article 5. I urge all Alna voters to do the same.
