Children's Room: Wiscasset Public Library’s Children’s Room urges families to come to the library and sign up for Read, Renew, Repeat. We are launching our Read, Renew, Repeat Summer Reading on May 21. During the ensuing months, the library will host a range of free activities for our younger patrons to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants earn incentives and raffle tickets as they reach their reading goals. The raffle includes 14 super cool prizes such as popular books, matching stuffed animals, Lego sets, art and craft kits and more! “We’ve planned a wonderful program for kids to make the library a great place to read, learn, and discover what’s available for their enjoyment,” said Children’s Librarian Laurie Ridgway. “We have crafts to go, puzzles and games on site, weekly story times, coloring and fun contests.”

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading during the summer prevents summer reading skill loss. “Studies also indicate that students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests,” Ridgway added. “Our library is committed to supporting children, even the reluctant reader.” Registration runs through July 26. To sign up, visit the Library at 21 High St., Wiscasset or call (207) 882-7161 or  visit wpl@wiscassetlibrary.org. Happy reading!
