Ready to have a great summer but could use some exciting plans? Let the Wiscasset Public Library Children’s Room provide you with fun for everyone and prizes, too! Join this year’s Summer Reading Program entitled “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" Physical fitness and reading fitness make a winning combination for all

Participants may register for the program in the Children’s Room beginning Tuesday, June 21. When registering, each reader or listener will receive a packet containing guidelines for the program, a book title log, a bookmark, an activity sheet with stickers, a Wiscasset Walking Map and Scavenger Hunt, a bracelet, Rock, Paper Scissors game instructions, a Portland Sea Dogs ticket voucher, and a list of all our special events and programs.

Chewonki will bring the 2016 Summer Reading Program to life with their brand new Animal Fitness presentation on Tuesday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the library.

Our very own Wiscasset castle will open its doors and grounds to celebrate “Family Day at Castle Tucker” on Tuesday, July 12 from 10:30 a.m. until mid afternoon. Games that were once enjoyed there will be played by participants in our summer reading program and by others who want to be part of our fun and fitness theme.

Just eight days later, on Wednesday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m., a special music program will be presented by children’s musician/entertainer Rob Duquette. As a performer who specializes in many instruments, including drums from around the world, he will offer a fun and engaging show to children while introducing them to world music.

Chewonki will visit us again as our summer reading program moves toward an end. We will enjoy their special program “Tide Pools: Life on the Rocky Shore.” Participants will be able to dip their hands into the three zones of Maine’s rocky intertidal system and touch some of the ocean’s most magnificent species!

Throughout the summer, we will be welcoming children to the library from Wiscasset Community Center’s Mainely Summer Camp program. Our End of the Program Celebration Splash Party will take place on Thursday, August 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wiscasset Rec. Pool. Prize drawings for all who completed the Summer Reading Program will take place at that time.
