Nicholas and Lucinda Tilas of Wiscasset are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Sue Tilas, to Sumner Ames Averill, son of Wayne and Peggy Averill of Alna.

Graduates of Wiscasset High School, the couple are classmate sweethearts of 8 and a half years. Melissa graduated in 2010 from Capilo Institute of Augusta for cosmetology and is currently employed by Possibilities Salon in Wiscasset.

Sumner has competed in craftsmanship competitions, is currently employed by Ames True Value in Wiscasset, and continues his passion in woodworking creations.

A fall 2014 wedding is planned.
