Taking a trip to the beach during Story Time
On Thursday, Jan. 24, while many Mainers were dealing with frigid temperatures outside, inside the Children’s Room of the Wiscasset Public Library at Story Time, children were enjoying a trip to the beach with Paddington Bear.
While sitting on a blanket, watching the ocean waves and keeping an eye on ten annoying gulls, the children listened to Michael Bond’s “Paddington at the Beach.” This counting book gave all a great escape to thoughts of warmer days. After this book, all acted out the scenes in the “Wave,” a wordless book illustrated by Suzy Lee.
Trying to stop a huge wave is impossible, but waves do leave treasures behind.
After being drenched by the wave and then finding some shells, the children returned to the blanket for a taste of Paddington’s favorite treat, marmalade on a cracker, which almost every one enjoyed.
A special event is planned in the Children’s Room on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. Come sing and dance with “A Chickadee Sings,” a new parent/child music experience.
Join Wiscasset resident Victoria Hamilton and her guitar as she leads an interactive music class for you and your child. Hamilton has more than 10 years experience teaching music, and welcomes children ages up to age 5 and their parents to join her. The event free for all to attend.
Regular Story Time takes place each Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
